Women's Health
Women’s Health is a complicated, wide-ranging area encompassing the physical, mental, and spiritual well-being of women of all ages. Our purpose is to cooperate with nonprofits and other approved organizations to improve the health of girls and women in Yamhill County in significant, and possibly lasting, ways.

Founded in 1975, Virginia Garcia provides comprehensive, compassionate, culturally appropriate health care, with a special emphasis on serving migrant and seasonal farm workers and others with barriers to receiving care. We awarded two grants in support of a vital new women's health initiative to increase availability of visual learning tools, with the goal of enhancing patients' understanding and practice of preventative health.
Because an estimated 30% of women's deaths are caused by cardiovascular disease, the first grant allows for the purchase of posters related to heart health to be displayed in all 36 patient rooms of the hospital's three Yamhill County clinics. Medical staff will thus be better equipped to help patients recognize the signs and symptoms of heart disease so as to minimize the risks. Further, because preventative care is crucial for early detection of breast and cervical cancer, our second grant is funding the purchase of anatomical models of the uterus and breast along with educational posters. These tools will facilitate meaningful conversations around prevention and early detection of what can all too often be fatal diseases. |

Domestic/Sexual Violence Survivor ER Kits
Domestic/Sexual Violence Survivor ER Kits
When survivors of assault are taken to a hospital emergency room, advocates from Henderson House receive calls to accompany and support them. Since survivors’ clothes and other personal items are often confiscated by law enforcement as evidence, our grant allows for 10 specialty kits to be provided to the survivors during their time of trauma and need.
The kits contain clothes (a sweat suit, pajamas, shoes, and socks) and other items, such as a blanket, a notepad/journal, toiletries, a card of encouragement, and a bracelet handmade by Henderson House sexual assault group participants. Note: these are not forensic kits.

Courageous Movement
With Courage is a breast cancer support organization founded in 2020 by a survivor. The purpose is to help those who have been diagnosed with breast cancer and their families.
A lending library of high-quality donated items is being assembled for patients to borrow while they navigate treatment. Wigs, post-surgical garments, and additional essential items will be available, easing financial and other concerns. Our grant pays for storage units to keep the closet organized.
Movement plays a pivotal role in supporting the mind and body during the healing process. Free classes taught by professionals will focus on rebuilding mobility, strength, and confidence. Our grant will fund regular classes so that clients can engage in exercise and connect with their peers in the breast cancer community.
